The Sustainable Development Committee (SDC) provides a platform for members to
focus on a professional discussion of contemporary global as well as local sustainability
issues and their interplay with the economy and industries through advocacy, open
sharing forums and events featuring specialist speakers, including visiting scholars or
experts. The SDC believes it is through constant dialogue that we can foster a common
understanding that will help create the path to a sustainable future for Hong Kong.
Our mission:
- To bring together individuals from banking and finance, insurance, utilities, property development and construction, manufacturing, energy, academia, government, management consulting, NGOs, and young professionals with a passion for a sustainable future.
- To focus on issues including decarbonization, energy efficiency and transition,building and construction environment, water & waste management, single-use plastics, regulations and reporting, air quality and protecting the natural environment. The SDC is particularly proud of its long history of delivering its annual signature beach cleaning event for CanCham members and their families.
- To support CanCham in its dialogue with government and other key stakeholders on advocacy issues and policy submissions, including responses to the annual Chief Executive’s Policy Address and participation in relevant key industry- and government-sponsored events.
- To introduce and promote the best practices in the area of sustainable development, especially from the Canadian experience, and to share with our members and the local community.
- Hong Kong is ‘Asia’s World City’ and both CanCham and the SDC believe it should take a leadership role in continuously improving our environment not only for its current residents but also to complement the government’s initiative to attract new talent to live and work here and to encourage further sustainable economic growth and prosperity.
