New Mainland Travel Permits Facilitate Access for Hong Kong Permanent Residents
Starting from July 10, 2024, non-Chinese passport holders who are Hong Kong permanent residents are now eligible to apply for Mainland Travel Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (non-Chinese Citizens). This is an important development that aims to streamline clearance procedures at Mainland control points and facilitate business trips, travel, and visits to relatives for this group.
Highlights of the new Mainland Travel Permit:
- Fast and convenient access via electronic channels at Chinese immigration
- Multiple entry to the Mainland
- Validity of five years
- Allows stays of up to 90 days per trip
The application process involves two main steps:
Obtain the "Notice of Application for Access to Information" from the Immigration Department online: https://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration/records/onlineaccessinfo.htm
Schedule an appointment with the designated agent, CTSHK, to complete the application process: https://www.ctshk.com/pass/nrep/bookterms.jsp
APEC Card holders may also apply for this new Mainland Travel Permit.
This initiative is a welcome development that will greatly benefit Hong Kong permanent residents of foreign nationality, especially those with business interests or family connections in the Mainland. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong encourages all eligible members to take advantage of this new travel permit to facilitate their activities and visits across the border.
